Check an environmental permit
Look up a waste site's environmental permit or licence on the official public registers in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Free, no account needed.
Why check a site's permit
Your duty of care includes making sure waste goes only to someone authorised to take it. A site that receives waste needs an environmental permit or a registered exemption for it, and the regulator's public register shows who holds a permit.
The number is looked up on the register that issues numbers in that format, at the moment you check. Some older licences, mobile plant and some Northern Ireland permits can't be searched online: for those, ask the site for a copy of its permit or check with the regulator.
Search the registers yourself

- Scotland: SEPA public register: find authorisations
- Northern Ireland: DAERA waste licences register
How Tippa helps
Tippa checks your own site's permit against the register when you save it, and again every night, and checks every carrier you work with on all four registers.
- Free, on every plan.
- A site whose permit is on no register is refused when you save it.
- Each record keeps the carrier's details as they were at the time.
